The Uncanny Valley: The Case Against AI Voices

The growing use of AI, or synthetic voices, has the potential to be the most disruptive technology in voice acting since, well ever.
However, the Uncanny Valley phenomenon describes that the closer synthetic human speech gets to perfection, the less comfortable we are with it … until it is actually indistinguishable from real humans.
We’ll define the Uncanny Valley, discuss how it applies to human voice, and make some guesses as to the future of synthetic voices in the world of voiceover.
